The FlightVu Witness system consists of a number of CCTV cameras, connected to live LCD screens and a state of the art digital video recorder/server. Recordings can be used as evidence to prosecute violent or disruptive passengers, or to prevent litigation when passengers are ejected after violent incidents.

FlightVu Witness The use of overt cameras, itself acts as a deterrent to terrorists or potential troublemakers.

The FlightVu Witness camera systems can be easily promoted to your passengers by placing emphasis on your concerns for their Safety and Protection.

The wide angle, covert and/or overt solid state video cameras are fitted such that they cover the whole interior of your aircraft. This not only allows monitoring of the passenger cabin but provides secured access to the cockpit door enabling the identification of anyone requesting entry to the flight deck and the detection of suspicious behavior or potential danger.

The recorder either operates during the whole of the flight, or on command from a "Panic Button" available to the Flight Attendants.

The digital recording of any incidents can be removed from the recorder and examined at a later date, or reviewed on board the aircraft.

The recordings are robust and do not degrade with viewing, copying or re-recording, as they are digitally recorded.

The recordings are courtroom proven.

There is no tape to change, minimizing maintenance.

The Cabin Security System
The security of the flight deck and the cabin has moved to the top of airline's agendas since the tragedy of 11 September 2001. This demonstrated that aircraft are no longer merely a target for terrorist but have become their weapon of choice potentially causing thousands of innocent deaths.

Beyond these concerns over terrorist activity, incidents of air rage are increasing year on year. The UK Department of transport report "Disruptive Behaviour on Board UK Aircraft", cites 1250 incidents in the year to 31 March 2001, a 4% increase over the previous year. There were 13 diversions and 5 aborted take offs caused by disruptive passengers, at massive cost to the airlines.

The much publicized story of the 12 passengers, who were deplaned at Norfolk, VA, following rowdy and threatening behavior, is one of the most well known incidents that FlightVu Witness could have prevented. The recordings could also have served to prevent any legal action by the passengers claiming wrongful identification, and would have established the exact chain of events that occurred.

The FlightVu Witness system can assist Aircrew and Attendants by providing them with a low-cost, on-board CCTV security system. Serving four basic functions:

  • It would act as a deterrent.

  • The crew will be able to monitor the passengers behavior, and thus will be warned of potentially dangerous situations.

  • The video information could be used to bring legal proceedings against an offender or in defense if a case is bought against an airline.

  • The videos can be used to help train cabin crew to deal with violent passengers.
